WORTHY 2004 SOPHIA'S CUVEE . .
. JUST ARRIVED WINE TASTING SATURDAY AFTERNOON
WORTHY is a phenomenon. The 2001 made the Wine Spectator
Top 100 . . . each wine in succession has eclipsed previous
vintages . . . we tasted the just-released '04 yesterday
. . . royal purple . . . the darkest, richest, most lush
Worthy yet produced.
WORTHY is the "second" wine of AXIOS ($125) .
. . from Napa Valley . . . owned and produced by Gus Kalaris,
a local Ellicott City, Maryland importer, wholesaler, winemaker
. . . a longtime friend . . . a good, solid Greek boy who
wanted a good, solid Greek name for his wine . . . he selected
AXIOS . . . which in Greek means "worthy" . .
. for his "first" wine . . . and the English translation,
WORTHY, for his "second."
Gus
has spared no expense to make the best wines possible .
. . both are made by Bob Egelhoff . . . super luxury winemaker/eonologist/consultant
to some of the most sought after cult wines of California:
David Arthur, Amizetta, Richard Partridge, Axios, Phelan
. . . and Egelhoff.
Another local boy, DC's Washington Post wine writer, Ben
Giliberti . . . has highly praised both AXIOS and WORTHY
in numerous Washington Post articles.
Then there's the third local boy . . . me . . . I love
WORTHY and have been drinking it since it's first vintage
. . . come in and we'll open the '04 for you to taste.
QUESTION EVERYONE'S ASKING . . . Who is the mysterious
woman in black holding the latest bottle of WORTHY?
Nicole Saladyga . . . Gus' right hand wine consultant .
. . who was instrumental in blending AXIOS' "third"
wine . . . TRUTH . . . but that is a story for another time.
Nicole will be at Pearson's on Saturday . . . October 28
all afternoon . . . to taste and discuss the 2004 WORTHY
. . . she has even promised to open a bottle of AXIOS.
